God Lifted High as Michael W. Smith Helps CCA Build Wheelchair Ramp

On Sunday, December 17, volunteers from the Christian Contractors Association teamed up with Michael W. Smith to build a wheelchair ramp in St. Petersburg, FL.

Brian, the son of John and Joyce Veleno, was in a car accident last year. The accident caused Brian to suffer from severe brain damage and the inability to walk. Although Brian, 37, stays at a rehabilitation center just a few blocks from his parent’s home, he has not been able to visit with them because of the difficulty in getting Brian up the stairs with his wheelchair.

Ted Cancel, Jr., a CCA missionary said, “It was such a positive, uplifting experience. We just want to show the love of Jesus to the community.”

Award-winning Christian contemporary singer/songwriter, Michael W. Smith, stepped right into action on Sunday afternoon to assist in building the ramp. He was in the Tampa Bay area for his “Christmastime” tour and was able to spend a few hours before his concert at Ruth Eckerd Hall sharing God’s love in action. Michael is the vice-chair on the Presidential Council for Service and Civic Participation.

CCA president and founder, Scott Jager along with Trent Perrotto, Tampa Bay area missions coordinator, had the blessing of not only working with Michael, but also driving him to and from his hotel in Clearwater. What an awesome, God-given, opportunity for these servants of Christ to share uninterrupted thoughts about one another’s ministry.

Michael opened up and shared his heart both concerning his ministry and the positive impact that CCA had on him after helping the St. Pete family.

Although wheelchair ramps are nothing out of the ordinary for CCA, this project attracted some media to the location including Bay News 9 and NBC Channel 8.

John and Joyce Veleno shared their experience. They explained how CCA was sent to their door. Most importantly, God received the praise as they shared that only the Lord could make this possible.

The Veleno’s are so grateful that this year they are able to spend the holidays with their son, Brian.

Michael W. Smith has just released a new record, “Stand.” Track five, “Be Lifted High,” has become a theme song for CCA through this.

The heart cry of CCA is for us to drop to our knees so that it is Christ that is seen.
